Why create your own website?

Do you want a website such as the ones shown on the right? Or maybe you have a website already, but it doesn’t properly represent you, or it’s not getting any traffic and making you any money?

Up until quite recently, you had a couple of choices for creating a website:

1. You could have tried to create it yourself using a commercial website building application (or CMS for “Content Management System”) — but maybe found it very difficult or impossible to get it looking professional.
2. You could have hired a web designer, paid them some good money, and gone back-and-forth with them for a month or more.  The site would probably look nice but you could not maintain it yourself.  Anytime you wanted a change, you would have had to go back to your web designer.
3. Or, you could have taken your design and used a programmer to then code it into a CMS by hand, but this would have cost even more.

The core curriculum of WordPress Academy is WordPress 101: Web Design and WordPress 102: Web Marketing.  Each session is four weeks, consisting of 4 x  1 1/2 hours lecture/presentation and 4 x 3 hours of (optional) workshop.  WordPress 101 gives you the skills to design an attractive site, and WordPress 102 you learn how to promote your site via search-engine optimization, social media and email marketing.

With the power and simplicity of WordPress, and its huge adoption which guarantees thousands of free themes and plugins, almost anyone now can do between 75% and 100% of the work themselves of designing their own site.  With the right guidance and information, anyone now can master the foundations of this excellent CMS in a few hours.  In case you do need a little additional design assistance (and many people do in order to get their site “just right”), you have a choice between our very affordable upgrade packages or using someone in our outsourcing network at at extremely reasonable rates.

How does it work?

Sessions take place via web conference and telephone. You will be able to watch my screen, hear my instructions, ask questions, and (during the practice period, if you want) share your desktop with the class.

The first weekly session (Monday evening) begins with a 90 minute lecture/demonstration, followed by a first guided practice period of about an hour.  The second weekly session (optional but highly recommended) happens on Thursday afternoon.  Here is where you actually build-out your site, with my direct assistance.  Work on your own while the class is happening (possibly with speakers muted) and “raise your hand” whenever you need help. It works just like a regular classroom!

If you can’t attend the Monday night, no problem — just watch the session recording and then come to the Thursday session.  If you consider yourself knowledgeable already — no problem, attend the Monday lecture to brush up your skills and skip Thursday.

All sessions include live coached practice — I show you how it’s done, in real time, using your actual website.

Who am I?

I am a trainer, software developer, internet entrepreneur, website developer, and internet marketer.
